Member Spotlight

Adam Janes

Adam is an Associate at Kirkland & Ellis LLP.

Q:   How long have you been a member of IPLAC?

A:   I joined IPLAC in the Spring of 2022 after learning about the organization from other members of my firm and after being given an opportunity to join the Field Day Committee.

Q:   What is your practice like?

A:   The majority of my practice is representing clients in contentious litigation matters involving patent infringement, trade secret misappropriation, and unfair competition before federal district courts, the United States Patent and Trademark Office, and the United States International Trade Commission. I also counsel clients on IP acquisition, risk, and monetization strategy, and my pro bono practice has included representing clients in state and federal trial and appellate courts.

Q:   What do you enjoy the most about being an IP attorney in Chicago?

A:   Having grown up in Chicago, I have wanted to practice IP litigation here for nearly my whole life. When I was eleven, I sat in a courthouse in Chicago’s Dirksen Federal Building and watched my father successfully enforce his patent rights against one of the largest audio equipment manufacturers in the world. His David-versus-Goliath story opened my eyes to the world of IP litigation, and inspired me to become a patent litigator. I love this city and am very proud to practice IP litigation here in Chicago.

Q:   What do you like the most about being an IPLAC member?

A:   The people. IPLAC is a collection of passionate, inspiring, and kind people who range from law students interested in IP law to in-house and outside counsel practicing the full IP law spectrum.

Q:   What do you like to do for fun, whether IP-related or not?

A:   I am a lifelong tennis player and I love traveling to watch Formula One or IMSA sports car racing.
