Q:  Tell us about your practice…
A:   Here’s the boring answer: My practice is a mix of patent prosecution, counseling, and litigation, focusing primarily on electronics, software, and automotive technologies. But here’s the fun answer: I love rock n’ roll and fast cars – and I love the people involved in those spaces – so, much of my practice focuses on those areas. However, I simply love being exposed to new technologies and helping anyone in need of help with IP, whether it’s procuring or asserting their own, or destroying others’.

Q:  What’s your favorite part of being an IPLAC member?
A:  My favorite part is the people – that sounds so cheesy, but it’s true. We have a great collection of professionals in IPLAC, many of which have become friends and almost all of which I enjoy spending time with. I think field day is my favorite annual event and is always a great opportunity to see a lot of people letting loose a little.

Q:  How did you get into IP? Or, what advice would you give your younger self?
A:  Way back in the late 90’s, back in high school, I was trying to decide between becoming a lawyer (I loved debate), or an engineer (I also loved physics, and my dad is an EE). A smart friend of mine told me about patent law, and I discovered then that it was the perfect marriage of both of those areas. After a little stint pursuing a music career after college, I went back to law school and finally officially began down the IP portion of my life journey.

Q:  What are you typically listening to/watching/reading/doing?
A:  When I’m not working, I’m generally trying to be a good husband and father to three sons. However, when do I find just a little extra time, I sit down behind the drums to try to kick off some of the rapidly developing rust on my playing chops.

Q:  Cubs? Sox? Or just the hot dogs?
A:  Go Cubs, Bears, and Illini!!!
